SHE RECOVERS® is an international movement of self-identified women in or seeking recovery from a wide variety of issues, including substance use and eating disorders, other behavioral health issues, trauma, abuse, codependency, cancer, grief, low self-esteem, perfectionism and other life challenges. SHE RECOVERS® creates welcoming spaces and transformative opportunities – online and in real life – to connect, support and empower recovering women.
Laura Ward is the SHE RECOVERS® Coach for the Hartford, Connecticut, Sharing Circle. It is intended that the Hartford Sharing Circle will meet once a month. Women in or seeking recovery in all areas of their lives are welcome. Women gather to talk about what’s on their minds, to meet other women, and to support and empower each other. Each month will focus on a SHE RECOVERS Sharing Circle Topic – women all over the world focus on the same topic each month in their Circles.
The Sharing Circles will be announced as EVENTS through our Closed Facebook Group and all the details (location, cost, monthly topic) will be available in advance.
Shortly after getting sober, launching my blog, and beginning to connect with people in the online recovery community in early 2015, I discovered SHE RECOVERS®. Without this incredible organization, I can honestly say my recovery would not be as strong and vibrant as it is today.
In 2017, SHE RECOVERS® brought its cyber-sober movement to life with the first-of-its-kind conference for women in recovery. More than 500 women who had previously only united online to encourage and support one another from behind computer and device screens gathered in New York City to meet in real life for a weekend of inspiration and empowerment. Continuing to embrace the power of in-person connection, SHE RECOVERS® held a second event in Los Angeles in 2018, and is planning a third event in Miami in 2020. In addition, the organization launched a Creating Connections Tour, with several stops in the United States and Canada in 2019, and is working with its recovery coaches to host monthly sharing circles. SHE RECOVERS® also hosts several retreats every year.
Why? Because, we are all recovering from something and, despite the immense power of our ever-growing online recovery community, real life connection is critical to recovery.
Our next SHE RECOVERS® Sharing Circle in Connecticut will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2019, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Bridge Healing Arts Center in Farmington.
This gathering is for any self-identified women in or seeking recovery from a wide variety of issues, including substance use and eating disorders, other behavioral health issues, trauma, abuse, codependency, cancer, grief, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and other life challenges. Our sharing circle is a safe place for women to come and talk about challenges in their lives, receive support, and connect with others who have, or have had, similar experiences.
Our October topic is: Cultivating Mindfulness. There are 20 spaces available for this meeting. Advance registration is required. There is a recommended non-refundable contribution of $10-$25 (to help cover facility fees and meeting materials); however no one will be turned away.
